Laos
|
Laos is the ancient kingdom of a million elephants. A devoutly Buddhist nation, this is reflected throughout the country from language to the temples and in art, literature and performing arts. Laos is the land to meet people whose kindness and hospitality is renowned. The landscape is dominated by mountains, jungles, waterfalls, and of course, the Mekong River, the heart of the country.
Explore ancient temples and golden palaces. Visit the former royal capital of Luang Prabang and its rich variety of architecture, from facades of old French colonial homes to glittering temple rooftops. Witness the ritual of over 300 monks filing through silently collecting alms. Day trek through local villages, coffee plantations and hanging bridges to visit handicraft markets and watch women weaving on ancient wooden looms. Ride on elephants or stroll along the Mekong River, float in inner tubes down rivers and swim in freshwater pools.
