ITINERARY BY DAY
In the morning, make your way from Kuala Lumpur to Kampung Sungai Sireh, a charming village located just 1.5 hours drive from the capital. Situated smack bang in the middle of one of Malaysia’s famous rice growing communities, Kampung Sungai Sireh is surrounded by acres of lush green rice paddies and offers visitors a glimpse of a simpler life, devoid of skyscrapers and away from the hustle and bustle of the city.
Arriving in the village, meet with your local guide and settle down for a short briefing while enjoying a refreshing welcome drink. Here, you’ll learn the basics of village life and enjoy panoramic views of the surrounding paddy fields and the nearby freshwater river.
Afterwards, start your tour with a stroll through the nearby paddy fields. If you are there during the harvest months, get a glimpse of traditional harvesting methods, including the use of lesungs (foot pounders) and indiks, used to trample paddy stalks.
Afterwards, take a stroll through the fruit and vegetable orchard, plucking fruits of the season and trying it fresh at the source. Then, attempt to crack the thorny exterior of the “king of fruits”, the durian, known throughout Asia for its pungent aroma and sweet taste.
Before lunch, grab a fishing rod and take some time out to go fishing in the nearby freshwater stream before being rewarded with a plate of steaming hot fish curry, a Malaysian specialty.
In the afternoon, take a stroll through the kampong to get a feel for life in the village. Stop for a chat with the friendly locals before enjoying a tour of a typical wooden kampong house on stilts.
