"We all  agreed that the vacation was a great success. We enjoyed ourselves  tremendously, Accommodations at the Palm Garden Hotel in Hoi An, and the Majestic Hotel in HCMC were outstanding,  We ate very well at the buffet breakfasts in the hotels.  We greatly enjoyed the day in  the Mekong Delta aboard the Bassac. The food was excellent. Thank you very much for making these comfortable arrangements for us.

My favorite places were Hoi An, HCMC and the Mekong. The guides  showed us the sights and also oriented us so that we could explore on  our own, and I liked those adventures best. In Hoi An on our free  time, we walked along the beach. We hiked into town from the hotel using back routes along the dikes and paths through residential and farming areas. One day local boatmen gave us a lift partway, paddling us up through the canals to their village. We shopped in the market  and at the clothing and handicraft  stores. Dynamic HCMC seemed  familiar due to my recollection of my stay there during the early  '60's. It was also new, with new construction, traffic and enterprise  everywhere. The Vietnamese impressed me with their tremendous energy  and friendliness. We ate Vietnamese food very well in restaurants and  on the street. Now I particularly miss not having the delicious tropical fruits for breakfast each day. We enjoyed the Mekong cruise  on the Bassac, especially the floating market in Cantho. In a year or  so I hope to explore other Mekong areas, particularly smaller towns and nature preserves."
