Siem Reap

Interesting facts about Siem Reap

  • Angkor Wat translates to City Temple
  • Siem Reap translates to the Defeat of Siam (Thailand)
  • Over 4 million tourists visited Siem Reap last year. Not one of them? You better get there fast…

Why we love Siem Reap (and think you will too)

  • It not only has Angkor Wat just around the corner but the town boasts fabulous hotels, restaurants, markets and bars
  • The markets are fascinating, you can buy pretty much anything you want and stuff you didn’t even knew existed!

Our top tips on getting the best out of Siem Reap

  • There really should be no rush and allow at least 3 days to explore them. This may sound like too much now but trust me, its worth it.

  • Whilst all the other tourists go back to their hotel after sunrise for breakfast, pack a picnic breakfast and explore the temples. This is one of the coolest and quietest times.

  • Don’t just visit the Angkor Wat Complex, get out and visit other interesting temples such as the Bayon temple with its stone faces, Ta Prohm which has been left alone by restorations or Banteay Srei with its elaborate wall carvings.

  • Cycling around the temples gives you a chance to get away from the crowd and see unusual temples en route.
