- Not so long ago it was the Imperial Capital of Vietnam
- The citadel used to be a forbidden city, those who entered who were not elite enough used to be punished by death.
- It has lots of vegetarian restaurants as the local Buddhists eat only vegetarian food for 2 days every month
- During the Tet Offensive in 1968, 3000 civilians were burnt alive
Why we love Hue(and think you will too)
- The food. It is very different to that in the north and south and so good.
- The Imperial City and seeing how Emperor Minh Mang lived; he had his own bridge which no one else could walk across! His tomb is seriously impressive and worth going to visit.
- It has so much to see but is fairly easy to squeeze the main highlights into a day trip
- We love driving down the Hai Van Pass to Hoi An, the drive is beautiful and the views along the coast are stunning.
Our top tips on getting the best out of Hue
- Try Bun Bo Hue (noodles with beef), it truly is excellent
- Go on an evening cruise down the Perfume River
- We hate to be pessimistic but bring an umbrella
Weather in Hue
- In all honesty, Hue doesn’t get good luck with weather. Expect floods and heavy rain in September to December. The rest of the year you may experience short sharp down pours.
