Day 1: Hanoi – Lao Cai

Our trip starts with an overnight train journey from Vietnam's capital city to the border town of Lao Cai. The accommodation for tonight will be in soft sleeper berths on the express train (standard cabin includes 4 berths per cabin).

Day 2: Lao Cai - Sapa

Early arrive at Lao Cai, transfer to Sapa for breakfast. Today we start by getting some exercise with trek to the hill tribe villages of Cat Cat, Ta Van and Cau May. As we walk to the villages nestled in the valley below Sapa, we will meet some of the local ethnic minority people on their way to and from Sapa. These minority people, including the Red Zao, Hmong and Tay people, walk to Sapa to trade at the markets. Tonight we spend night in our hotel at Sapa town.(B, L)

Day 3: Sapa – Ta Phin – Lao Cai

This morning our exercise involves climbing up Ham Rong Mountain for a panoramic view of Sapa and its environs. After lunch time we drive out of town and commence an hour-long walk to Ta Phin, home to the distinctive Dao (pronounced Zao) community. From here we drive to Lao Cai station for night train back to Hanoi.(B)

Day 4: Hanoi

Arriving at Hanoi station at 0500AM in the morning, end of services.

Sapa Mini Adventure
Customer Feedback

A mini Vietnam adventure tour incorporating two full days in and around the beautiful town of Sapa by the Chinese border. Experience a fantastic Sapa adventure tour, trekking in Vietnam's remote countryside (as easy or challenging as you wish), watch ethnic minority tribes in traditional dress going about their daily lives, and visit local hill tribe markets... then in the evening return to the comfort of your hotel in Sapa town. A great opportunity for those seeking a Vietnam adventure tour but still desiring creature comforts.

If you have the time, Sapa tours in Vietnam are one of the key 'must do' highlights when visiting the country, however if you only have a couple of days to spare we also recommend Mai Chau, Vietnam's South West region - offering similar scenery, ethnic minority villages, hiking, cycling, and, as it is less known than Sapa, a more quiet atmosphere.

Our Vietnam adventure tours can be as easy and slow going as you wish, or a real physical challenge. Allow us to customize an itinerary to suit your fitness level and interests.

Highlights

  • Trekking through the villages of Cat Cat, Cau May, Ta Phin, all home to different ethnic minority groups
  • Exploring the beautiful town of Sapa nestled up in the hills, offering magnificant views, a cool climate and a bustling market
  • Shopping for souvenirs in the markets
  • Coming back to a comfy hotel room each night

Good for...

  • Those wanting to experience Sapa but with their creature comforts, ie staying in a hotel, not a homestay
  • Suitable for all ages, including families
