Travel by road from Ho Chi Minh City to board a local boat at Ben Tre. This less-visited area of the Mekong is home to luxuriant vegetation and lush coconut islands as well as orchards and rice paddies. Visit a coconut processing workshop to discover how this fruit is treated to separate oil, flesh and husk. Sample the coconut sweets which are a local speciality.
After a further short journey through winding arroyos by local boat, take a short walking tour of a peaceful village in a relaxing creekside setting. Discover traditional matt weaving by hand in a friendly local farmer’s house.
Hop on a “xe loi”, the local tuk tuk, for a drive through the beautiful rice paddies of the Mekong countryside, arriving at a local pagoda where you can learn about the role of communal temples in Vietnamese village culture.Board the traditional wooden boat Le Jarai and cruise the mighty Mekong.
