A few days before Christmas we took Mekong Delta tour. The day was more than we expected. In all it was a full on day and certainly the highlight of our short trip to Vietnam. I could not fault it, the guide was wonderful and didn't just run their speel like other guides we had met. It was a great day, top marks Buffalo Tours.

Day 1: Ho Chi Minh City - Vinh Long (40km cycling)

Leave Ho Chi Minh City behind and drive to Ben Tre the gateway to the Mekong Delta. After a quick safety briefing, its helmets on and away you go! Don’t worry if you get tired as a support vehicle will follow you for your entire journey. Start with a 40km ride along a combination of paved, sand and dirt paths, through local villages, rice fields and fruit orchards. Along the way you’ll see real-life activities of the Mekong Delta with kids going to school, farmers growing rice and vegetables or keeping ducks in their pens! Meet your hosts on Binh Hoa Phuoc Island where you will stay overnight with a local family.

Day 2: Vinh Long – Tra Vinh (30km cycling)

This morning start the day with an early morning cruise along the river to floating market. Then pop in to see home-based factories that produce rice popcorn and coconut candies.  Set off after lunch and ride 30km on country roads to Tra Vinh.

Day 3: Tra Vinh - Can Tho (30km cycling)

Today ferry hop your way across the rivers of the delta. Start with a drive to the Cau Ngang pier and board a ferry to cross the broad waterways, and then grab your bike and pedal along the paddy fields to Cau Ke to see a few Khmer temples. Take another ferry to Luc Si Thanh Island and cycle through quiet scenic back roads to the ferry at Cau Cai, arriving later in the afternoon in the hub of the delta, Can Tho.

Day 4: Can Tho - Ho Chi Minh City (30km cycling)

At the break of day take a small boat and cruise into the busiest floating market in the Mekong. Watch the daily ritual of people haggling for goods and grab a morning coffee at the local floating café! Enjoy your last cycling day pedaling along country roads to see a historic communist base. Glide quietly on a sampan around the base and discover how the communists lived and worked during the war. Afterwards, drive back to Ho Chi Minh arriving late afternoon.
