ITINERARY BY DAY
Wake up in your hotel in the picturesque, tree-lined streets of Sarawak’s largest city, Kuching. Enjoy the relatively chilled out vibe of this Malaysian metropolis, reflected in its setting on the banks of the slowly meandering Sarawak River. Then strike out for a more wild experience. Hop into our pickup service, sit back and soak up the 35km (45minute) drive through the countryside that stands between you and the Matang Wildlife Centre - MWC. Situated in Kubah National Park, the MWC is Sarawak’s main centre for wildlife rehabilitation. Witness the hard work of its staff in rehabilitating rescued animals such as orangutans, sun bears, bear cats, civet cats, sambar deer, barking deer, porcupines and crocodiles as they prepare to release them back into their natural habitats. If you are a bird lover then take a wander around the large aviary which houses a variety of hornbills, as well as brahminy kites and sea eagles.
Indulge in a break from your pursuit of exotic wildlife for lunch at the Centre and then put your off-the-beaten-trail boots on for the guided trek to Kubah National Park Headquarters. Splash out in an indulgent dip into crystal clear streams, waterfalls and bathing pools amongst dense rainforest dotted with some of the rarest plants and orchids in Borneo as you walk. Try your hand at spotting some of the notoriously illusive wildlife such as the bearded pig and the mouse deer; though be warned they generally live deep in the jungle.
