Discover Vietnam’s rugged and scenic northeast by taking to the roads and cycling from the capital Hanoi to the remote area of the northwest we can see life as it truly is for the Vietnamese. Our fleet of modern European road bikes ensures you get the most out of the trip in terms of comfort and enjoyment. Along the way we encounter dramatic landscapes and sweeping panoramas as the rural population goes about its business. Highlights include the tranquil surroundings of Ba Be Lake and Ban Gioc waterfall.

DAY 1: HANOI – BA BE (Cycle 42 km)
Drive to Ba Be lake National Park, 270 km North of Hanoi. After arriving at the small town of Phu Thong cycle the remaining 42 km to the guesthouse. (L,D)
 
DAY 2: BA BE – CAO BANG (Cycle 50 km)
Drive to a private boat for a cruise on the lake. Swim in the crystal clear waters before a sumptuous lunch on board. Then travel to Cao Bang and enjoy part-cycling on the scenic passes along the way. (B,L,D)
 
DAY 3: CAO BANG – BAN GIOC –CAO BANG (Cycle 80 km)
Cycle to visit the natural wonders of Ban Gioc Waterfalls and Nguom Ngao Cave. Return to Cao Bang in late afternoon and spend the second night. (B,L,D)
 
DAY 4:  CAO BANG – LANG SON (Cycle 50 km)
After breakfast, bid Cao Bang farewell and get on the saddle again for a ride to the border town of Lang Son, a booming trade town. The afternoon will be spent exploring Nhi Thanh Cave, Tam Thanh Pagoda and the Dong Kinh market. (B,L,D)

DAY 5: LANG SON – HANOI
Travel back to Hanoi. There will be a chance to cycle part of the way for eager cyclists. Along the way make numerous photo stops through charming hill tribe villages. (B,L)

The Bicycles
For this trip we use the ‘Matts Cruise 5.7’ and ‘Kalahari 500’ performance bicycles made by German cycle specialists Merida. The bicycles have 24 speeds and a lightweight steel alloy frame designed for road cycling. Other features include LRS (Low Ratio Suspension) and excellent damping capacity, both of which help to absorb vibration and shocks for a smoother, more comfortable and enjoyable ride. The bicycles are available in a number of sizes.

What to take
We suggest a main backpack with a reasonable daypack for any treks and day tours. Large suitcases are not advisable.

Fitness Requirements
There are no specific fitness requirements, although clients with a history of heart or respiratory problems should not take part.
