The Pu Luong Nature Reserve is an area of outstanding beauty, cultural interest and high biodiversity value stretching from Mai Chau in the northwest to Cuc Phuong National Park in the south east. The region is blessed with rich forest, limestone panoramas, magnificent rice terraces and breathtaking scenery. On this trip you can experience the everyday life and culture of Thai and Muong people and stay in scenic villages with traditional homestay accommodation.

Day 1: Hanoi – Pu Luong (Hang village)
After breakfast we depart Hanoi for Pu Luong Natural Reserve. This scenic drive takes around four hours. Along the way we pass fields of tapioca and sugar cane as well as rice paddies. Following lunch in Ban Sai village we drive further into the reserve where we begin our trek. We trek for approximately three hours before arriving at the Thai village of Hang. We spend the night with a local Thai family who will be our hosts in a traditional house built on stilts. Whilst enjoying their hospitality we will discover a little more about their lives and culture. (B,L,D)

Day 2: Pu Luong (Hang village - Kho Muong village)
This morning we have the opportunity to stroll around Hang village before we start trekking. Today we will be walking for approximately six hours. The trekking route today is off the beaten track. You will walk among the rice terraces, pass through several Thai villages and hamlets. The trek is moderate - but worth the efforts for the scenery. We have our picnic lunch on the way and take a rest before embark on the most beautiful path to the village of Kho Muong.  As the name suggests this is a Muong minority village and we will be their guests for the night. In the afternoon you can discover Kho Muong by foot or chatting with our hosts as they prepare our dinner.(B,L,D)

Day 3: Pu Luong (Kho Muong - Hin village)
This morning we set out from Kho Muong and trek for roughly three hours on an uphill gradient through a picturesque forest passing several villages along the way. The mountain hiking can be considered as a hard trek due to the sharp cat-ear rocky path. Be prepared with good shoes and hiking gloves will also help. The pain will be worth it when you reach the top with great views of Kho Muong valley as well as the walking path around the mountain from the following day. We break for lunch in the village of Nua before setting off again for a further two hours, this time the trail is predominately downhill. Our final destination for today is Hin village, another Thai community. (B,L,D)

Day 4: Pu Luong - Hanoi
We leave Hin village and catch a motorcycle taxi for a short ride to La Han ferry where our car drive us back to Hanoi.

What to take
You will be responsible for carrying your own luggage while trekking, therefore it is in your own interest to pack as lightly as possible. We suggest you keep your luggage weight down to a maximum of 10 kg with a reasonable daypack for the day treks. Comfortable walking boots are essential for the walks especially during the wettest months of the year.
