Start your city excursion by rickshaw at the historic Tha Pae Gate, an ancient city wall that's also the gateway to the narrow and colourful streets leading to Puak Tam community. Meander through this charming artisan village that's most famous for its beautiful brass ornaments and regalia, before taking a break in the shady garden patio of the Chiang Mai Women's Correctional Institution. Though not a standard stop for Chiang Mai visitors, the institution now runs both a restaurant and a massage parlour that provides inmates with learning opportunities beyond the prison walls. Learn a bit about the institution's approach toward inmate rehabilitation before hopping back in your rickshaw and setting off.

Arrive next at Wat Chiang Man, the oldest temple in the city that despite its age, remains an important landmark for local Buddhists. Afterwards, peddle onward to Waroros market and hop off of your rickshaw for a food discovery by foot. Wander the bustling food stalls here and end your journey on a refreshing note, with a tasty sample of fresh fruit.
