The first of its kind in Penang, this custom-made cooking lab has been built from the ground up with 10 purpose-built workstations that allow for the perfect hands-on cooking class. Tucked away in a secluded corner of the Tropical Spice Garden, this cooking school is ideally positioned in the midst of tropical jungle and organic herb gardens overlooking the Andaman Sea.

Morning classes begin at 9am with a complimentary guided tour of the Spice Terraces. This is followed by a relaxing cup of herbal tea sweetened with local stevia leaves. Afterwards, you will be taken to the cooking school where you will learn how to dish up au-thentic Malay and Nonya (a mix of Malay, Indian and Chinese cuisine) specialties. Under the guidance of experienced, professional chefs, try your hand at cooking dishes like nasi lemak, assam laksa and chicken tandoori, as well some refreshing spiced beverages.

As classes are limited to 10 people, chefs are able to provide a personalized approach to help you recreate these authentic and traditional flavours in your own kitchen. Lunch is served at the Pavilion, where you will be able to savour the fruits of your of labour.

Finish the day with a visit to the gift shop to browse the impressive selection of herbs and spices. Individually sourced and imported from around the world – cinnamon sticks and black cardamoms from Sri Lanka, vanilla pods from Bali and cloves and nutmeg from Penang – the spices are neatly packaged and sealed to customs standards so that you can take them home with you.
