With over 250 golf courses throughout the Kingdom, Thailand is undoubtedly the place for golfing enthusiasts to visit when planning a golfing holiday in South-East Asia.
This fact was reinforced by TAT who hosted the TGTM (Thailand Golf Travel Mart) 2017 in the beautiful Khao Yai National Park located in the Nakhon Ratchasima province.
Tour operators who specialize in fully organized golfing holiday packages mingled with international buyers and suppliers from key markets as well as golf course administrators, owners and suppliers from many of the courses across the country.
In excess of 150 buyers represented 32 countries at the event. 65 were from Asia, with another 48 coming from the ASEAN region. While these areas contribute to the largest golfing markets, there were also 31 European buyers and 3 from the United States of America.
Local participation was prominent with 95 members representing golf courses, tour providers, travel agents and hotels. Positive feedback and international exposure to the event were guaranteed with 48 overseas media attendees also being invited.
TGTM 2017 aims to further promote the Kingdom as a golfing destination that is rightly seen as offering world-class facilities. This was enhanced by the organization of a pre-scheduled meeting programme as well as ‘speed-dating’ sessions which allowed interested parties to discuss mutual needs, facilities and opportunities.
A hugely successful media briefing was used to give an up-to-date analysis on the current status of the country’s golf courses, facilities and services as well as tourist attractions close to courses that will add to a golfing tour’s experience.
An interesting concept which will surely help sell such packages was “Golf and Gourmet”. This focussed on explaining the merits of the courses and facilities themselves as well as the proud reputation Thailand has for gastronomy.
TAT executives and overseas office directors along with marketing representatives were on hand to offer advice regarding marketing strategies and how to increase competitiveness that will further strengthen the Kingdom as a world-class golfing hub.
It is clear that golf will remain a major revenue source for Thailand in the coming years, and along with highly acclaimed golfing awards received by seaside resorts such as Pattaya and Hua Hin over previous years, it was a particular honour to see Chiang Mai voted as the Asia and Australasia golf destination of the year 2017. This prestigious award was voted for by 220 global golf tour companies.
The continued future of golfing tourism in Thailand looks bright with courses, facilities, gourmet food and sightseeing activities that are all well above par.
