Basket Weaving in the Cambodian Countryside

DAY 1 - Basket Weaving in the Cambodian Countryside

Travel through lush, verdant rice fields, past languidly grazing water buffalo and serene cows as you drive through the glorious Cambodian countryside en route to the first stop of the day: Kchas Village. This delightful, remote village is known for its famous offering of bamboo sticky rice so take the time to explore and learn more, before onwards departure to Phum Konseng Leu. Here, be met by a knowledgeable local guide and take part in a walking tour of this fascinating village.

Listen as local women from the village explain and demonstrate the process of bamboo weaving. The practice plays a significant role in local life - villagers use bamboo to craft baskets, fish traps, rice containers and decorations. As well as the chance to become immersed in Cambodian culture, this tour also provides the opportunity to support the development of the local community. The practice of bamboo weaving is predominantly carried out by the women of the village; experiences such as this provide them with the chance to preserve their traditional craft as well as gain supplementary income that can be put towards family life and education for their children.

As the morning draws to an end, take away the bamboo creation as a memento of an unforgettable day in the Cambodian countryside and return to Siem Reap.
