ITINERARY

DAY 1

Local Life in the Countryside

DAY 1 - Local Life in the Countryside

Gain insight into the traditional way of life in Siem Reap whilst supporting the local community on this eye-opening trip into the Cambodian countryside. Board a riverboat and sail over the placid waters of Tonle Sap Lake to reach the remote village of Kompong Phluk. Drift through lush mangrove forests and take in the unique ecosystem that survives on flooded soil. The boat ride explores this enormously important waterway which not only acts as a breeding ground for numerous fish and reptile species but also whole colonies of endangered water birds and macaque monkeys, too.

Disembark the vessel in the isolated Khmer village of Kompong Phluk which is built on wooden stilts that rise form the water. With around 3,000 inhabitants, this charming fishing village uses floating platforms to grow fruit and vegetables. Here, chat with members of the community about their local way of life.

Afterwards, take a short drive to the small village of Chansar and have chance to hop aboard an ox cart for an exhilarating ride through the lush fields. Visit a local family who make their livelihood from creating brooms from natural materials; watch how they carry out this traditional process and have the chance to try it out. Walk around the local village and lend a helping hand to the villagers carrying out tasks, including farming, fishing or animal husbandry. Enjoy a traditional and authentic lunch with a Khmer family and spend the afternoon exploring and participating in local activities.

Round off this unforgettable tour with a visit to a local pagoda and receive a monk’s blessing, thought to bring luck and fortune. All proceeds from the experience will go directly to improving the lives of the local people.
