Instead of walking, sit back on a cycle rickshaw and enjoy a ride through the narrow and busy streets of Chandni Chowk market. Walk up to Jama Masjid and marvel at the magnificent marble and red-sandstone facade of one of India’s largest mosques. Pass by the bright outer walls of the Red Fort on the way to Raj Ghat memorial, the cremation place of Mahatma Gandhi, and learn more about the ‘Father of the Nation’.

In the afternoon, explore New Delhi and visit some of the most notable landmarks in this part of the city, including the imposing India Gate war memorial, the Parliament and Rashtrapati Bhawan, the official residence of the president. Finish this discovery of India’s capital at the soaring Qutb Minar. Built in the 13th century, this 73-metre tapering sandstone and marble minaret is the highest stone tower in India.

DAY 3 - Dehli - Agra

Enjoy breakfast at the hotel and head to the railway station to embark on an authentic Indian train journey to Agra.

Referred to as the city of love, Agra is home to the world renown Taj Mahal. Spend the afternoon exploring this unique and breath-taking architectural jewel. Built in the 17th century, the white-marble mausoleum was constructed by the Mughal emperor Shah Jahan as an expression of his love for his wife.

Next, visit another outstanding example of Mughal architecture, the Agra Fort. The extensive fortress served as the former residence of the Mughal Empire until 1638 and encompasses several important structures, including a number of palaces, an audience hall and two mosques.

DAY 4 - Agra - Fatehpur Sikri - Jaipur

After a relaxed breakfast at the hotel, hit the road and travel to Jaipur, the Pink City. On the way, stop at the ancient fortified city of Fatehpur Sikri and discover this deserted complex of monuments and temples.

After visiting this spectacular landmark, continue the drive to Jaipur. Upon arrival, check in at the hotel and get a good night’s rest before exploring the capital of Rajasthan state the next day.

DAY 5 - Jaipur

Start the morning at the magnificent Amber Fort, just outside of Jaipur. Standing tall on top of a hill, ascend by elephant to the extensive complex. Housing a sandstone and marble palace, it served as the seat of power before the construction of the City Palace. Return down by local jeep.

Back in the city, take some photos at the picturesque Hawa Mahal. Also known as the Palace of Winds, this extension of the City Palace is one of Jaipur’s most spectacular landmarks. Resembling honeycomb of a hive, the intricately carved pink windows of the facade allowed royal women to be able to observe everyday life on the streets without being seen by the public.

Continue to the City Palace Museum and spend the afternoon wandering about the many palaces, gardens and courtyards within the extensive complex and browsing through the large collections of rare manuscripts, paintings, weapons and textiles.

Before returning to the hotel, end the day looking at the stars from Jantar Mantar, the Royal Astronomical Observatory. Designed to observe astronomical positions with the naked eye, it boasts a collection of 20 architectural instruments.

DAY 6 - Jaipur - Pushkar

After breakfast, leave Jaipur and head to the holy city of Pushkar, a prominent Hindu pilgrimage town and home of one of the world’s rare Brahma temples.

After checking into the hotel, start exploring the quaint town at Pushkar Lake. This sacred Hindu site is surrounded by 52 ‘ghats’ (stone staircases leading to the water) where pilgrims come to bathe and cleanse their sins. Take a short walk over to Jagatpita Brahma Mandir. Dating back to the 14th century, this Hindu temple is dedicated to the god of creation, Brahma, and features a bright red spire and walls decorated with silver coins.

In the evening, go on a fun camel car ride through town before heading back to the hotel.

DAY 7 - Pushkar - Jodhpur

Indulge in a hearty breakfast before spending the day on the road, travelling to Jodhpur. Located in the Thar Desert, Jodhpur is also known as the Blue City thanks to the indigo-washed houses in the old town. Upon arrival, take the day to relax and leisurely explore the picturesque city.

DAY 8 - Jodhpur

Start the morning with a visit to the monumental Mehrangarh Fort. Towering on a rocky hill above the Jodhpur skyline, this majestic masterpiece is one of the largest forts in India. Steeped in history, the fortress consists of seven gates, all built by different rulers, and encompasses several palaces and temples. Take in the stunning panoramic views of the Blue City before continuing to Jaswant Thada mausoleum. The stunning white marble cenotaph is perched on the side of a small lake and was built in memory of Maharaja Jaswant Singh II by his son.

Continue the trip to Udaipur, the City of Lakes. Nestled amidst the golden Aravalli mountain range, it boasts several striking palaces, temples and havelis (traditional townhouses). Complete with winding narrow streets and several lakes, it’s considered one of the most romantic towns in the entire country.
