DAY 1

Kyoto Zen Garden Tour

DAY 1 - Kyoto Zen Garden Tour

Your journey into the world of Zen begins by heading to Daitokuji Temple Complex, where you’ll find some of Kyoto's most beautiful, yet less well known, Zen Gardens. Each of the beautiful subtemples of Daisenin, Ryogenin, Kotoin and Zuihoin have their own distinctive Zen garden style. Spend the next few hours on a meandering tour of them all, soaking in the serene atmosphere and taking in the intricate details so typical of Japan.

The rock gardens of Daisenin are known to be some of the best examples of their kind, while Kotoin is famous for its majestic maple trees. In Ryogenin you will find a striking field of white gravel, accented with islands of rocks and moss representing symbols of longevity and health. In tiny Zuihoin, the raked gravel resembles the peaks of stormy seas.

Let your mind wander back to a time of emperors,  and warriors as you wander through the complex, learning about the unique features of the gardens and how they embody the Zen philosophy.
