Kota Kinabalu – Sapulot

DAY 1 - Kota Kinabalu – Sapulot

Enjoy three days of activities in the remote Borneo countryside at Orou Sapulot. Through a series of sustainable and responsible tourism programs, this community-based eco-travel project takes travellers off-the-beaten path whilst aiming to protect the environment and conserve the local Murut culture.

Start this adventure into the wild with a bus journey from Kota Kinabalu to Keningau and continue the trip to the village of Labang by 4x4 vehicle. From here, hop on a wooden boat and cruise along the river until reaching Pungiton Eco Camp. Freshen up with some tasty snacks before exploring the sacred Pungiton Caves. Comprising several levels, navigate through the extensive network along an underground stream and admire the spectacular rock formations in the little-explored caverns. Return to the camp and enjoy a cooling dip in the river before savouring a delicious dinner and taking in the star-filled night sky. Tuck into bed and slowly fall asleep to the soothing sounds of the rainforest.

DAY 2 - Sapulot

Wake up early and enjoy breakfast at the camp before journeying down the river to Tataluan. Enjoy a wonderful hike through the jungle and arrive at the foot of the astonishing Batu Punggul. Rising steep from the rainforest, the 300-metre limestone pinnacle offers adventurers the thrilling opportunity to scale to the top of the outcrop and be rewarded with panoramic views over the expansive jungle canopy.

Back on the ground, kick back on the riverbanks and dig into a picnic lunch before travelling to the modern longhouse of the Romol Eco Village. Located above a valley, enjoy stunning views of the surrounding forests and get ready for an entertaining evening in the peaceful countryside. Feast on traditional Murut food and enjoy a series of cultural performances, including dances and traditional musical instruments, before spending the night in the longhouse.

DAY 3 - Sapulot – Kota Kinabalu

Get up early, enjoy breakfast and travel to Vangkaakon Waterfall. Upon arrival, embark on a light morning hike, venturing into the dense rainforest, until reaching the multi-levelled cascades. Take a plunge in the crystal-clear pools, explore the different levels of the waterfall and get comfortable on the rocky landscape with some snacks. After this adventurous morning excursion, head back to Romol Eco Village for lunch and prepare for the journey to Kota Kinabalu.
