ITINERARY

DAY 1

Kota Kinabalu – Apin-Apin Base Camp

DAY 1 - Kota Kinabalu – Apin-Apin Base Camp

In the morning, depart from Kota Kinabalu and journey over the scenic Crocker Range to the town of Tambunan. From here, continue by four-wheel drive to Apin-Apin, Keningau, where trekkers need to register and show the required entrance permits for Mount Trusmadi. After a short briefing from the forestry staff, travel along the rocky roads to Apin-Apin Base Camp, the starting point of the trek. Upon arrival, enjoy a hearty dinner and retire to the campsite for a few hours of sleep.

DAY 2

DAY 2 - Mount Trusmadi – Kota Kinabalu

Wake up in the early hours of the day and get ready to climb Malaysia’s second highest peak. Whilst the 4.3-kilometre-long Mastan Trail is the shortest route to the summit, it is also the steepest and least developed. Embark on the challenging climb and conquer the Nuluhon Trusmadi Tambunan summit at 2,624 metres in time to watch the magnificent sunrise. Take in the spectacular views of Mount Kinabalu in the distance, poking out of a sea of clouds. Take some time to explore the surrounding forests before sitting down for some well-deserved breakfast.
Afterwards, begin the descent and head back to the base camp, witnessing the area’s diverse range of plants along the way. Upon arrival at the Apin-Apin campsite, refuel with some lunch before travelling back to Kota Kinabalu.
