DAY 1 - Dala

Discover the rural township of Dala a quick ferry ride across the river where the weird and wonderful meet. Join the rush of the crowd as commuters jostle alongside vendors and women hawking an assortment of snacks from trays perched on their heads.

Once in Dala, see how the country folk live with a rickshaw ride along the waterfront and through tree shaded lanes. Then it’s a 40 minute drive through the country side to Baung Daw Gyoke Pagoda also known as the snake temple, where pythons in tangled knots drip from the windows, are entwined around Buddhist statues and slither freely among the devotees and nuns! Next, take a short walk to see the Chinese pond with Confucius type statues, owls, deers and golden lions with heads that look like monkeys. Follow the lane to reach the unusual Indian inspired pagodas and stupas built in 1967 and end your visit with a stop at the 1,000 Buddha’s a replica of those at Monywa near Mandalay.
