ITINERARY

DAY 1

Hawker Heaven and Street Art

DAY 1 - Hawker Heaven and Street Art

Experience the culinary highlights of Singapore in this mouth-watering half-day tour. In the world-famous, best-selling travel book ‘1000 Places to See Before You Die’, Patricia Schultz lists “eating in a hawker centre” as a must-do when visiting Singapore. Raucous, vibrant and visually sparse, what hawker centres lack in décor they more than make up for in affordable, gastronomical excellence. These culinary havens form the cornerstone of the Singapore diet and owe much to the diverse, melting pot of cultures present in Singapore.

Walking around a hawker centre is a sensory adventure – enveloped in the hubbub of happy diners, visitors will experience the sounds of clanging woks, the chopping of razor-sharp cleavers and the aroma of delectable cuisine. This half-day tour visits not one but two of Singapore’s finest hawker centres.

Begin at the Amoy Food Centre and try traditional “Liquid Gold”, a lovingly roasted coffee that the locals swear by. Next, bite into an exquisite, hand-made curry puff and see exactly why this humble foodstuff has become an award-winning institution (receiving the Michelin Bib Gourmand in 2016, 2017 & 2018).

Work up an appetite with a street art-centred walking tour and visit an ancient Chinese temple before arriving at the Maxwell Food Centre (the place where celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay famously lost a cook-off with the local chefs) and enjoy a plate of Singapore’s national dish, Chicken Rice. Then, try a soon-to-be extinct mouth-watering local delicacy in the traditional Fuzhou oyster cake – a crispy, deep-filled dish that is only sold in two stalls in the whole of Singapore. Complete the culinary portion of this expedition on a sweet note with one of the delicious local desserts.

Round off the day at the Singapore City Gallery and feast the eyes on the delightfully detailed model replica of Central Singapore.
