DAY 1 - Hanoi

Arrive in Hanoi and transfer to the hotel in Vietnam’s dynamic capital. Spend the rest of the day at leisure; relax or independently get to know this beautifully chaotic city and practice crossing the motorbike-dominated streets.

DAY 2 - Hanoi – Ba Be National Park

On the first full morning in Vietnam, embark on a journey through the scenic countryside, bound for Ba Be National Park. The protected area lies about 230 kilometres north of Hanoi, but its rich biodiversity and unique limestone landscapes make it worth the journey. Stop for lunch at a local restaurant along the way and finally arrive at the wild nature reserve.

Take some time to relax and refresh before joining a boat ride on the park’s prominent Ba Be Lake. Located on top of a mountain, float along Vietnam’s largest natural lake and enter the 300-metre-long Puong Cave. Witness the uniquely shaped stalactites and clusters of bats adorning the gigantic tunnel before continuing to Dau Dang Waterfall – a succession of impressive cascades among sheer rock walls.

DAY 3 - Ba Be National Park

After breakfast, put on hiking shoes and a sunhat and head out for a full-day trek into the verdant jungle. Arrive in the charming village of Khau Pha, home to Hmong people and admire the peaceful scenery of the village. Hear about the customs and culture of this fascinating ethnic group and settle down for a picnic lunch before continuing the countryside exploration in the afternoon.

Follow the trail and stop by another Hmong village, known by the name Na Ban, before finishing the extensive hike at the hotel.

DAY 4 - Ba Be National Park – Ha Giang City

Spend the day on the road and travel to Ha Giang Province. Located in the far north of Vietnam, soaring limestone mountains, cascading rice terraces and a snaking river form one of the country’s most spectacular landscapes. It’s one of Vietnam’s best-kept secrets and due to its distance from major cities, visitor numbers are kept low.  Arrive in Ha Giang City and check into the hotel. Spend the rest of the day relaxing or exploring the town, nestled within the breathtaking scenery.

DAY 5 - Ha Giang City

Enjoy breakfast before leaving for Bang Village, the starting point of the day’s trek. Enjoy a morning of hiking through the picturesque countryside, passing traditional houses of the Dao ethnic minority group and taking pictures of the glowing rice terraces, until reaching Thun Khieu Village.

Reenergise with a local lunch before continuing the tour through the mountainous region to Tien Thang, a village of the Tay ethnic people. Along the way, visit the gnarled, ancient tea tree and learn about the culture of the village. From here, transfer back to Ha Giang City for a well-deserved rest after this day-long hike.

DAY 6 - Ha Giang City – Hoang Su Phi

Leave Ha Giang City and travel along the winding roads to Hoang Su Phi District, famous for its stunning rice terraces and one of the province’s most mesmerising destinations.  Upon arrival in the village of Tan Xa Phin, embark on a short mid-morning hike and stop at a family’s tea-making workshop; meet the locals and learn about the journey of a tea leaf – from plantation to cup!

Next, trek to a local Hmong village and enjoy lunch in the company of the villagers. Full and content, continue walking and pass through a small village inhabited by Dao people before finishing this day’s adventure at Nam Soong Village of the Tay ethnic group. Settle in for the night at a local family’s homestay.

DAY 7 - Nam Soong – Ho Thau Village

On this day’s cultural outing, get the chance to meet the different ethnic minorities living in the hills of Northern Vietnam. Start the day with a walk to Nam Son Village and witness the daily local life in this small town before crossing a suspension bridge and heading up the mountainside. Stop at a small Hmong village and learn about the inhabitant’s customs and traditions before continuing the hike. Meet different minority groups, including Long Tunics Dao, Hmong Flower and Nung, along the way and spend the night at a homestay in Ho Thau Village.

DAY 8 - Ho Thau – Suoi Thau

Say goodbye to the friendly hosts and continue this authentic journey through the picturesque Vietnamese countryside. Hike along the winding trails, passing refreshing streams, a waterfall and tropical bamboo forest, before reaching the village of Suoi Thau. Amidst spectacular rice terraces, the village is home to the Long Tunics Dao ethnic group. Witness a more than a century-old tea plant with white-haired buds – called Shan tea. Famous in Vietnam, taste a cup of fresh brew before visiting an ancient temple of the Long Tunics Dao people to make a wish.

After lunch at a local house, spend the rest of the day relaxing in the tranquillity of the remote mountain village. In the evening, retire to a homestay and enjoy a good night’s rest.

DAY 9 - Suoi Thau – Lung Dam – Panhou Lodge

Spend the last day in Vietnam’s rural countryside following a short, four-kilometre-long trek from Suoi Thau to Lung Dam village. On the way, stop at Ban Luoc Village and take some photos against the stunning backdrop of some of the region’s largest rice terraces. After admiring the breathtaking scenery, join a local family in the kitchen and help prepare and, of course, eat a delicious lunch.

In the afternoon, transfer to the serene Eco-Lodge Panhou Village; enjoy a relaxing stay at this environmentally friendly resort located in the heart of the mountains.
